1 to 1 Dog Training in Surrey
Personal, practical training for you and your dog.
Sometimes group training isn't quite what you and your dog need. You may have a particular problem you'd like help with, your dog may find training around other dogs difficult, or you may simply prefer individual attention.
At Dingley Dell Dog Training, I offer 1 to 1 dog training for puppies and adult dogs in Surrey. Sessions are tailored specifically to you and your dog, allowing us to concentrate on the things you would most like to improve.
I use kind, positive and force-free training methods, helping you understand your dog's behaviour and giving you practical techniques that you can continue using at home and in everyday life.
I have been working with dogs since 2000 and have experience with a wide range of breeds, ages and behaviours.
What can 1 to 1 dog training help with?

If you're struggling with something that isn't listed above, please get in touch. We can have a chat about your dog and work out whether 1 to 1 training is suitable.
Why choose 1 to 1 dog training?
Training tailored to your dog
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to dog training. During a private session, we can concentrate on your dog's individual needs rather than following the same programme as a group of dogs.
Work at your dog's pace
Some dogs are nervous, easily distracted or simply find working around other dogs difficult. Individual training gives us the opportunity to work at a pace that your dog is comfortable with and gradually build confidence.
Concentrate on the problems that matter to you
Perhaps your dog pulls constantly on walks, struggles with recall, jumps up at visitors or is nervous around other dogs. We can focus on the things that are causing difficulties in your everyday life.
Learn how to continue the training yourself
My aim isn't simply to train your dog for you. I want you to understand what your dog is learning and why, so that you feel confident continuing the training between sessions.
1 to 1 puppy training
Private training can be particularly useful during the early weeks and months of your puppy's life.
I can help you get started with important foundations such as:
. Puppy biting and mouthing
• Recall
• Walking nicely on a lead
• Basic manners
• Settling and calm behaviour
• Building confidence
• Appropriate socialisation
• Everyday training
• Establishing good habits
Starting with good habits early can make life much easier as your puppy grows into an adult dog.
If you've recently brought a puppy home and would like individual advice, I also offer 1 to 1 puppy visits to help you and your puppy get off to a good start.
1 to 1 training for nervous and rescue dogs
Some dogs need a little more patience and understanding.
If your dog is nervous, lacks confidence or has come from a rescue background, individual training can provide a calmer environment in which to build trust and teach new skills.
I have personal experience of working with nervous dogs. My own Saluki, Bill, had a difficult start in life and was very nervous and unpredictable when I rescued him as a puppy. Working with him helped shape my understanding of how dogs learn and reinforced my belief in using kind, positive methods.
My approach is always to work with the dog in front of me, rather than expecting every dog to respond in exactly the same way.
Positive, force-free dog training
I believe dogs learn best when we teach them clearly and reward the behaviours we want to see.
My training is based on ethical, positive and force-free methods. The aim is to build a good relationship between you and your dog while helping you understand how your dog learns.
I am a Certified Member and Assessed and Qualified Member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and am proud to display the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter symbol.

What happens during a 1 to 1 session?
Before we start, we'll discuss what you'd like help with and any particular concerns you have about your dog.
We'll then work through practical exercises suited to your dog and your circumstances. I'll explain what we're doing, why we're doing it and how you can continue practising between sessions.
The aim is for you to leave with clear, practical things you can work on at home and on your everyday walks.
What if I don't know exactly what training my dog needs?
That's absolutely fine.
You don't need to diagnose the problem or know which training technique you need before contacting me.
If you're finding something difficult with your dog, just get in touch and tell me what is happening. We can have a chat about your situation and decide what type of training would be most helpful.
